New president, principal at Boca Raton academy

Edward Bernot, newly named president of Saint John Paul II Academy in Boca Raton.

BOCA RATON  |  Saint John Paul II Academy announced May 22 that Edward Bernot, current school principal, would assume the role of president, effective immediately. The diocese is grateful for the leadership of Brother Daniel Aubin, who faithfully served as school president since 2013 until his passing in April. Brother Aubin will be remembered for his service as a De La Salle Christian Brother and his more than 50 years of living his vocation.

As previously announced, Brother Aubin named Bernot as his successor. Bernot’s official appointment as president was made via a letter from Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito, dated May 20, 2025.

Brother Aubin wrote in March 2024: “I am confident in the capable leadership of Mr. Ed Bernot, who will succeed me as president of our esteemed institution. Mr. Bernot’s dedication to our mission, his deep understanding of our community, and his proven track record of success make him the ideal candidate to lead us into this new chapter. I ask each of you to offer him your full support and cooperation as he assumes this pivotal role.”

Bernot served as principal of Saint John Paul II Academy since 2016. He holds a master’s degree in educational administration from California University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s in English from the University of Dayton. He has also earned credits toward a master’s in counselor education from Duquesne University. Bernot’s previous positions include principal, assistant principal and English teacher at Catholic high schools in Pittsburgh, and athletic director and English teacher in Sidney, Ohio.

“I am confident that Mr. Bernot will lead Saint John Paul II Academy in a positive manner, continuing to support the mission of the school and promoting the Lasallian values that have been established before him,” said Gary Gelo, superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Palm Beach.

Joining Bernot in leading the high school will be Carissa Karakaedos, whose appointment as principal was announced in March.
