Lumen Christi Gala was a Success!

The Diocese of Palm Beach was proud to celebrate the 30th annual Lumen Christi Scholarship Gala on December 8, 2019.  The theme of this year’s Gala was “Catholic Schools Illuminate Our World!”  Thank you to the Mayor of Palm Beach, the Honorable Gail Coniglio, for welcoming guests and for her long-term commitment to our Catholic schools in the diocese.

The purpose of the Lumen Christi Gala is two-fold, to raise funds for scholarships and to recognize the wonderful stories and people who are the heart of our Catholic schools. The Diocese of Palm Beach has a longstanding tradition of honoring and recognizing excellence and distinguished service in Catholic school education. The Lumen Christi Awards were created last year to recognize the outstanding efforts, contributions, and achievements of individuals on behalf of Catholic school education in the diocese. Each school was invited to select one award recipient and they were honored at the event.

In addition, the Diocese of Palm Beach announced that the Knights of Columbus Council 2075 has endowed scholarships for two Catholic schools in the Diocese of Palm Beach.  Each year a 7th grade student at St. Juliana Catholic School and St. Ann Catholic School will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship for their 8th grade year.  Grand Knight, Michael Gisewski and his wife Lisa, who is a teacher assistant at St. Ann Catholic School, presented Bishop Barbarito with a check for $300,000 to endow the scholarships.

Also, at the event, Mr. Richard LePore, who is a family member and Trustee for the Norma T. Pace Foundation also announced that the Foundation will be generously funding the Norma T. Pace Scholarships.  Richard’s family and the Foundation trustees are pleased to offer these scholarships in loving memory of Richard’s aunt, Norma T. Pace. In her memory, a total of 47 scholarships will be awarded annually - three scholarships will be awarded at each elementary and high school and one scholarship at each preschool.  Elementary scholarships will be $2000, High school scholarship are $3000 and preschool scholarships $250.  It is anticipated that $100,000 will be distributed each year.  Schools have already selected scholarship recipients for the current school year!
